Welcome to our site

Regional Associates for Community Initiatives (RACI), a company limited by guarantee, was founded by Dr. David Dronyi, Baguma Christopher and Lina Zedriga in response to the failure of government to adequately provide basic services to its citizens, the disconnect between civil society and the primary grassroots stakeholders, the insensitivity of the 'invisible hand' of the market to the needs of especially the rural population and the limitation of NGOs, bilateral and multilateral organizations to effect development.

The orientation of RACI is towards the inclusion of grassroots populations in determining their destiny in dignity and the opportunity to offer original thinking and innovative approaches to democracy and good governance in Africa.

Philosophy

The Regional Associates for Community Initiatives (RACI) is founded on the twin principles of assertiveness of individuals and empowerment of communities to respond to injustice in the political, economic and social arenas. We understand assertiveness to mean the ability to have one’s feelings and opinions considered and one’s appropriateness in handling of criticisms. We recognize that the relative distribution of power defines political, economic and social realities within any context: be it at the household, community, national, regional or global level and therefore understand empowerment as a process to restore the balance of power in a given context and development as structural reform to facilitate the more equitable distribution of power and opportunities. We consider as cross cutting issues: gender where women are in the most excluded, vulnerable and underprivileged position and; peace and reconciliation in response to Africa’s specific context. RACI is concerned with addressing the imbalance of gross exclusion and human security.

Thematic Areas
